Pune Traffic Diversions Intensify Near Market Yard for Metro Work

Pune traffic diversions near Market Yard during Swargate-Katraj Metro construction

Pune traffic diversions have been announced near Market Yard as construction continues on the underground metro line between Swargate and Katraj, with several turning movements blocked and motorists directed through alternative routes, the Pune traffic police said on October 21.

Vehicles travelling from Upper Bibwewadi via Chandralok Chowk towards Pushpamangal Chowk will not be allowed to turn right towards Swargate, Market Yard and Utsav Hotel. Commuters using this route must turn left and take a U-turn near the Aranyeshwar bus stop via the stretch opposite the Tanishq showroom before proceeding towards Swargate.

The changes also affect traffic travelling from Swargate via Pune-Satara Road and vehicles moving from Market Yard towards Satara, Katraj and Bibwewadi. These vehicles will be diverted through Pushpamangal Chowk, using the stretches near Wellness Medical Store and Bhapkar petrol pump before continuing towards Katraj and Upper Bibwewadi.

Vehicles approaching Pushpamangal Chowk will not be permitted to turn right towards Market Yard and Utsav Hotel Chowk. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Market Yard towards Swargate will not be allowed to turn right at Utsav Hotel Chowk.

The traffic police have advised motorists coming from Market Yard to use Vakharia Corporation Chowk to reach their destinations. Commuters can also take a U-turn at Pushpamangal Chowk near the Tanishq showroom and the Aranyeshwar bus stop. Vakharia Corporation Chowk has been identified as another route for reaching destinations from the Market Yard area.

The diversions are linked to ongoing construction of the Swargate-Katraj underground metro connection. The traffic changes place additional importance on route-level planning around construction zones, where restrictions at individual junctions can alter movement between Market Yard, Swargate, Bibwewadi, Katraj and Pune-Satara Road.

Motorists using the affected corridors will need to follow the revised turning restrictions and the alternative routes advised by the traffic police. The announcement did not specify an end date for the diversions.
