Pune School Bus Crashes Into Kalewadi BRT Divider; Traffic Hit

Pune school bus accident involving a bus on the Kalewadi BRT divider

A Podar International School bus crashed into a divider on the Bus Rapid Transit corridor near Tapkir Chowk in Kalewadi, Pune, on Monday afternoon, disrupting traffic after the driver reportedly felt dizzy while returning from student drop-offs.

The incident was reported at around 2.15 pm. The bus, registered as MH 02 BQ 1087, was not carrying any students when it collided with the divider. Only the driver and a female school staff member were inside the vehicle, and neither was injured, according to a report by Pune Mirror.

The driver is believed to have lost control after suddenly feeling unwell. The exact medical condition that led to the reported dizziness was not established in the report. The driver’s health is expected to be examined as part of efforts to determine the cause of the crash.

The bus came to rest on the BRT corridor divider, affecting traffic movement around Tapkir Chowk. A crane was brought in to remove the vehicle and clear the affected stretch. The recovery operation continued as authorities worked to reopen the route.

The absence of students on board limited the immediate risk to schoolchildren, as the bus was returning after completing student drop-offs. The incident nevertheless involved a school transport vehicle entering a segregated public-transport corridor, creating a temporary obstruction in an area used by daily commuters.

No injuries were reported, and the supplied report did not mention damage to other vehicles or any formal police action. Further examination of the driver’s condition is expected to clarify whether a medical episode caused the loss of control.
