Pune Road Work Near Palace Orchid Faces Safety Questions

Pune road work near Palace Orchid Society serving Mohammadwadi-Undri commuters and school routes

Residents of Pune’s Mohammadwadi-Undri area are seeking immediate action from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on pending road work near Palace Orchid Society in Ward 41, asking the civic body to disclose when construction will begin and provide a firm completion deadline.

Local social worker Aftab Raza said the tendering process for the project had reportedly been completed, but work on the road had not started. Residents are now demanding clarity on the contractor, the project schedule and the reasons for the delay.

“The tendering process has reportedly been completed, but the road work near Palace Orchid Society is still pending. The PMC must clarify when the work will begin and announce a definite deadline for its completion,” Raza said.

The road serves several residential communities and is located near Vibgyor School and Sanskriti School. It also connects with the Bishop’s School–Undri route, which is used by students, parents and daily commuters. Residents have raised concerns that the condition and unfinished status of the road are creating daily difficulties and adding to road-safety risks in an area with significant school traffic.

The demand for action follows wider concerns about safety on roads serving Mohammadwadi, Undri and NIBM. Residents referred to a fatal accident on NIBM Road on May 21, 2023, when a mini-bus reportedly suffered brake failure and was involved in a multi-vehicle collision. Two people were killed and several others were injured in that incident.

Residents have also flagged the condition of an alternative route near Dorabjee Mall, which they say is in poor condition. The route is used by commuters travelling through the area, increasing concern that people may have limited safe and reliable alternatives while the road near Palace Orchid remains pending.

In their demand to the civic administration, residents have sought the immediate commencement of the road work, disclosure of the contractor’s details and a clear completion deadline. They have also called for urgent repairs to the alternative route near Dorabjee Mall and a comprehensive road-safety audit, particularly on roads used by schoolchildren.

“Residents deserve safe roads and accountability from the civic administration. The PMC must prioritise the pending road work, repair the alternative route near Dorabjee Mall and address road safety concerns, especially on routes used by schoolchildren,” residents said.

The key issues now requiring clarification from the PMC are the start date for the project, the deadline for completion, the identity of the appointed contractor and the steps planned to improve safety along the affected routes. Residents have urged the civic administration to address these matters without further delay.
