Residents of Mohammadwadi and Undri have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to start pending road work near Palace Orchid Society in Ward 41, disclose the contractor’s details and announce a firm deadline for completion. The demand comes amid concerns over road safety and the daily difficulties faced by commuters using the route.
According to local social worker Aftab Raza, the tendering process for the project has reportedly been completed, but work on the road stretch has not yet begun. Residents are seeking clarity from the civic administration on when construction will start and how long the project will take to complete.
The road near Palace Orchid Society serves several residential communities and is located close to Vibgyor School and Sanskriti School. It also connects with the Bishop’s School–Undri route, making it part of the daily travel network used by students, parents, school staff and other commuters in the area.
Residents said the delay has increased concerns about the safety and reliability of routes used by schoolchildren and daily travellers. They have also drawn attention to the condition of an alternative route near Dorabjee Mall, which they said is in poor condition and requires urgent repairs.
“The tendering process has reportedly been completed, but the road work near Palace Orchid Society is still pending. The PMC must clarify when the work will begin and announce a definite deadline for its completion,” Raza said.
The safety concerns have also been linked by residents to a fatal accident on NIBM Road on May 21, 2023. According to the report, a multi-vehicle collision occurred after a mini-bus suffered brake failure, resulting in two deaths and injuries to several others. The accident has remained part of residents’ concerns about road conditions and safety on routes connecting Mohammadwadi, Undri and nearby areas.
Residents have called on the PMC to immediately commence the pending road work, identify the appointed contractor and publish a clear completion schedule. They have also sought repairs to the alternative route near Dorabjee Mall and a comprehensive road-safety audit of roads used by schoolchildren.
The demands point to three specific questions for the civic administration: when the road work will begin, what deadline has been set for completion and what measures will be taken to improve safety on the surrounding routes. The PMC’s response and any published project schedule will determine whether the pending work moves from the tendering stage to on-ground execution.
