A 33-year-old man from Sus was killed after allegedly being attacked with a billhook while mediating a financial dispute between two friends near the ITI ground in Pashan, Pune, on Sunday night. Police have registered a murder case against three people, including the victim’s friend, and are searching for the accused.
Sahadev Ramprakash Sharma died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Monday morning, senior inspector of Baner police Chandrashekar Sawant told the Times of India. The assault took place at about 11.30pm, police said.
Sharma’s brother, Krishna, 36, lodged a complaint at Baner police station on Monday. The three accused include a private vehicle driver who was involved in a financial dispute with another friend over the repayment of Rs 3 lakh. Sharma, who was acquainted with both men and was involved in share trading, had reportedly intervened to mediate between them.
According to police, the discussion escalated after Sharma allegedly abused the driver. Sawant said the driver then called Sharma to meet near the ITI ground. The driver and two other men allegedly reached the location carrying a billhook.
The accused allegedly attacked Sharma with the weapon and dragged him to the footpath before leaving the area. Passers-by alerted the police, who took Sharma to a private hospital. He later died while receiving treatment, police said.
Sawant described the attack as pre-planned. The murder case has been registered against all three accused, who fled the spot after the assault. Police teams are conducting a search for them and investigating the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the attack.
The incident places renewed attention on the risks associated with violent disputes in public areas, but police have not disclosed further details about the accused or any arrests. The investigation and search for the three suspects are continuing.
