Pune Metro’s proposed Padmavati station on the underground Swargate-Katraj corridor has moved closer to implementation after the Pune Municipal Corporation proposed transferring 665 square metres of civic land in Dhankawadi to MahaMetro. The land value of Rs 3.91 crore would be adjusted against the PMC’s financial contribution to the metro project, subject to approval through the civic body’s committee process.
The proposal has been placed before the PMC’s city improvement committee. If cleared, it will be sent to the standing committee and subsequently to the general body for final approval. The transfer would allow MahaMetro to secure the land required for constructing the station on the underground corridor.
MahaMetro had sought permanent ownership of 665 square metres from a 702-square-metre plot through a letter dated January 9, 2026. The property is located at survey numbers 19A/4A and 19A/4B in Dhankawadi and is reserved for municipal purposes under the development plan approved in 2017.
The plot was originally acquired for a truck terminal. It was later used to rehabilitate businesses from Sadashiv Peth that were affected by the Hanging Garden reservation. Because the land has existing institutional and rehabilitation history, the proposed transfer has involved a formal notice and objection process rather than a straightforward administrative handover.
The PMC issued notices to affected parties under Section 81(B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act. The parties submitted written objections and sought compensation, after which hearings were conducted. The current proposal cites the assessed value of the land and offers twice that value—Rs 3.91 crore—as an adjustment against the civic corporation’s contribution to the metro project.
The proposal also refers to a policy precedent involving the transfer of PMC land in Mundhwa at twice its assessed value for the development of Hadapsar railway station. That precedent forms part of the basis for the proposed valuation and financial adjustment in the Dhankawadi case.
The Swargate-Katraj corridor is planned as an underground extension in Pune’s metro network, making land acquisition and the transfer of public plots critical to station construction. For residents and businesses in Dhankawadi, the immediate next step is the PMC’s internal approval process, followed by consideration by the standing committee and general body before any final transfer can take place.
