Pune Metro’s proposed Padmavati underground station has reached a key civic approval stage, with the Pune Municipal Corporation considering the transfer of 665 square metres of land in Dhankawadi to MahaMetro. The transfer would support construction of the station on the underground corridor between Swargate and Katraj, but still requires clearance from multiple PMC bodies.
The proposal is currently before the PMC’s City Improvement Committee. If the committee approves it, the matter will move to the standing committee and then to the general body for a final decision. MahaMetro formally sought permanent ownership of the land in a letter dated January 9, 2026.
The requested area forms part of a 702-square-metre plot located at survey numbers 19A/4A and 19A/4B in Dhankawadi. Under the proposal, ₹3.91 crore would be adjusted against the PMC’s contribution to the metro project. The proposed adjustment is twice the assessed value of the land, according to the report placed before the civic process.
The land has previously been used for public infrastructure and rehabilitation purposes. It was initially acquired for a truck terminal and was later used to accommodate businesses from Sadashiv Peth that were affected by the Hanging Garden reservation. The plot is designated for municipal purposes under the development plan approved in 2017.
Because the proposed transfer concerns land reserved for civic use, the PMC has initiated the statutory process under Section 81(B) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act. Notices were served on affected parties, who submitted written objections and sought compensation. The civic administration subsequently conducted hearings to consider those submissions.
The land decision is part of the preparatory work required for the Swargate-Katraj underground extension, where station construction depends on securing sites for major civil works. The Padmavati station is planned along the corridor, but the current proposal does not constitute final approval for the land transfer.
The next steps are consideration by the City Improvement Committee, followed by the standing committee and the PMC general body if the proposal advances. A final decision will determine whether MahaMetro receives permanent ownership of the Dhankawadi land for the proposed station.
