Pune Heat Climbs to 35.2°C as Maharashtra Sizzles

Pune heat and high daytime temperatures over the city's urban landscape

Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C on Wednesday as October heat intensified across Maharashtra, with the local weather observatory indicating that temperatures could rise further over the next two days. The reading at Lohegaon was higher at 35.8°C, increasing afternoon discomfort for commuters, outdoor workers and other residents spending time outside.

The sharp daytime rise has created a marked contrast with comparatively cooler nights in several parts of the state. In Pune, the difference was especially noticeable during the afternoon, when exposure to direct sunlight made conditions feel unusually hot for October, according to the report by Pune Mirror.

The heat was not limited to Pune. Amravati recorded the highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra at 39°C, followed by Yavatmal at 38.2°C. Akola reached 37.9°C, Wardha recorded 37.6°C, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 36.5°C and Nagpur 36.4°C. Dharashiv recorded 34.2°C.

Pune’s 35.2°C maximum was therefore lower than readings in the state’s Vidarbha region and several other districts, but Lohegaon crossed 35°C at 35.8°C. The spread of temperatures shows how heat conditions varied significantly across Maharashtra, with the highest readings concentrated in parts of Vidarbha.

For city residents, the immediate concern is the continuation of hot afternoons. The observatory has indicated that temperatures may climb over the next two days, while nighttime conditions remain comparatively cooler. This uneven pattern means that the day’s most difficult conditions are likely to remain concentrated during afternoon hours, when commuters and outdoor workers are most exposed.

The readings also underline the importance of looking beyond a single city maximum when assessing weather conditions across Maharashtra. While Pune remained below the state’s highest recorded temperatures, the city’s readings were still elevated for the period covered by the report. The next two days will determine whether the upward trend continues, with the local observatory’s forecast providing the next official marker for Pune’s daytime conditions.
