Prajwal Revanna may be transferred from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to Hindalga Central Prison in Belagavi following an investigation into the alleged use of a mobile phone inside the jail, according to a report by Prajavani. The proposed transfer has not been independently confirmed through an official order or an on-record statement in the material supplied.
The report says Alok Kumar, director general of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services, instructed officials to shift Revanna to Hindalga prison. Unnamed sources were quoted as saying that information had been sent by email to the head of Hindalga prison and that Revanna would be moved under police security.
Revanna, a former Hassan MP, is identified in the report as a convict in a rape case. The report does not provide the date of the proposed transfer, the duration of the journey or details of the security arrangements beyond the reference to police protection. It also does not include a response from the prison department, Revanna or his legal representatives.
The reported action follows a Central Crime Branch inspection of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in August. The inspection was led by CCB deputy commissioners Haribabu and Imam Khasiem, according to the report. A search was also conducted in the special-security barrack where Revanna was lodged.
The inspection reportedly resulted in the recovery of a mobile phone, charger, SIM card, pen drive and diary. On the basis of a complaint filed by CCB inspector Subramanya Swamy, an FIR was registered at Parappana Agrahara police station against Revanna and Pratap Rai, who was described as having assisted him.
The report says police subsequently took the two-day custody of Revanna for questioning. It further quotes unnamed sources as saying that the mobile phone was sent to a forensic science laboratory, where some obscene videos and photographs were allegedly found. The same sources said Revanna had used the phone to maintain regular conversations from the jail with his father, JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna, his mother Bhavani Revanna and friends.
The account also links the proposed transfer to wider disciplinary action inside the prison system. According to the report, a prisoner identified as Shankar is being moved to Ballari jail after allegedly obtaining release through forged documents created in the manner of a Supreme Court order, in collaboration with DIG Somasekhar. Seven other people detained under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act are also reportedly being transferred to prisons elsewhere in the state.
The Department of Prisons and Correctional Services had formed an inquiry team headed by DIG Jinendra Khanagavi to investigate the prison-related issues. Jailor Ramesh Dharmatti and warder Mahesh Sajjan were suspended for alleged negligence, the report says.
The supplied report establishes that an inspection, an FIR, police questioning, an internal inquiry and staff suspensions were reported. It does not establish that Revanna has already been transferred or that the proposed movement has been formally approved. Confirmation of the prison order, the transfer date and the receiving-prison arrangements remains necessary before the central claim can be treated as settled.
