PMC Demolishes 38,000 Sq Ft of Illegal Construction in Manjari

PMC Manjari demolition machinery removing unauthorised construction in Pune.

The Pune Municipal Corporation demolished 38,000 square feet of unauthorised construction in Manjari as part of a drive against illegal buildings and plotting, in one of the civic body’s larger recent enforcement actions in the area.

The action covered unauthorised structures spread across plots measuring more than 90,000 square feet, according to Sakal – Pune. The demolished portions included reinforced cement concrete buildings, slabs, walls, columns and other structures constructed without the required permissions.

The PMC also acted against unauthorised plotting in the Manjari area. The operation was carried out by the civic body’s Building Development Department using excavators, a jaw cutter and other machinery. Police personnel were deployed during the demolition drive.

The action was conducted under the guidance of city engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar. Deputy engineer Sandeep Shinde and junior engineers Rameez Faras and Rutuja Chilke, along with draftsman Jayshree Joshi, were part of the team involved in the operation, the report said.

The demolition highlights the enforcement challenge created by construction and land subdivision taking place without planning permissions. In such cases, buyers may face legal and financial risks when residential units or plots are marketed before the underlying development has received the required approvals. The PMC’s action also links unauthorised plotting with the wider expansion of construction in Manjari.

Shinde advised citizens not to purchase plots from unauthorised layouts or flats in unauthorised buildings. He said the PMC would intensify action against unauthorised construction in the city and take strict measures when such plotting or building activity is detected.

The warning places responsibility on both the civic administration and prospective buyers. While the PMC’s enforcement teams are tasked with identifying and removing illegal structures, residents considering a property purchase are being asked to verify whether the plot, layout and construction have received the necessary permissions before completing a transaction.

The PMC said action against unauthorised plotting and construction would continue. The civic body’s next steps will determine whether enforcement remains concentrated on individual structures or expands into sustained scrutiny of the layouts and development activity associated with them.
