PMAY-G Houses: Andhra Pradesh Starts 3 Lakh-Home Build

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan have launched construction of three lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 scheme, alongside a pilot that will use 3D printing to build 117 homes in Guntur district.

The foundation for the first pilot house was laid with a beneficiary family in Burripalem village. A second group of houses will be built in Obulanaidupalem. According to an official release cited by PTI, the wider three-lakh-house construction programme was formally launched across Andhra Pradesh during the leaders’ visit.

The 3D-printing pilot has been allocated Rs 14 crore and is scheduled to be completed within six months, officials said. Each house can be constructed in about 10 days using the technology, which is expected to reduce construction time, labour requirements and material waste while maintaining quality and durability standards.

Naidu said the technology would also help create cooler indoor conditions. Houses built through the pilot are expected to maintain indoor temperatures at least eight degrees Celsius lower than the outside temperature, he said. Union Minister Chauhan assured the beneficiary family that the house would be durable, affordable and completed at the earliest.

The state government initially received a sanction for 75,000 houses under the regular quota, according to Naidu. He said a special request led the Union government to increase the allocation to three lakh houses. Naidu further said Andhra Pradesh would receive another three lakh houses after the current batch was completed, followed by an additional three lakh houses the following year. If those commitments are implemented, the total allocation would reach nine lakh houses, although the later tranches remain future commitments.

Naidu said the state aimed to achieve 100 per cent housing by 2029. He also said land disputes had been resolved and house sites distributed to poorer residents under the state’s ‘Pattabhishekam’ initiative. House sites valued at Rs 52,000 crore had been provided in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and other parts of the state, he said.

The chief minister also criticised the previous YSRCP government’s handling of the housing programme between 2019 and 2024. He claimed that six lakh houses intended for poor beneficiaries had been cancelled and that irregularities affected implementation. Naidu further alleged that some house sites were allotted in unsuitable locations, including tanks and hillocks, leading nearly four lakh beneficiaries to return their sites. These claims were made by the chief minister and were not independently detailed in the supplied report.

Chauhan said the Centre would provide full support for Andhra Pradesh’s development and repeated the commitment to sanction another three lakh houses before the ongoing construction was completed. The immediate implementation milestone is the completion of the 117-house 3D-printing pilot in Burripalem and Obulanaidupalem within six months.
