Pimpri-Chinchwad October Heat Crosses 35°C as Rain Stays Away

Pimpri-Chinchwad heat affecting a sunlit urban street during a dry October afternoon

Pimpri-Chinchwad recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C on Sunday as a prolonged break in rainfall intensified the October heat and contributed to growing discomfort and reported seasonal illnesses across the city, according to a report by Sakal – Pune.

The minimum temperature reached 23.8°C, while the maximum was recorded at 35.2°C. Residents experienced strong afternoon heat and increased sweating as the city moved through the first half of October without significant rain. The report described the conditions as the impact of “October heat”, with both daytime and night-time temperatures rising in recent days.

Rainfall has remained below the average in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad this year, according to the report. Rain was recorded for a few days in August before withdrawing, while September remained dry. The first half of October also passed without rain, a pattern that has contributed to the increase in daytime temperatures across the urban area.

Temperature observations cited in the report show a steady rise over four days. The minimum temperature was 22.9°C and the maximum was 34.4°C on Thursday. On Friday, the minimum was 23°C and the maximum was 34.2°C. Saturday recorded a minimum of 23.2°C and a maximum of 35°C, followed by Sunday’s 23.8°C minimum and 35.2°C maximum. Over the previous seven days, the minimum temperature rose by 2°C and the maximum by 3°C.

The weather has alternated between intense sunshine and cloudy conditions, with the report linking the changing pattern to health concerns. Cases of cold, cough and fever were reported to be increasing, while private and government hospitals were seeing more patients. The report said residents were experiencing several health problems amid the changing weather conditions, although it did not provide patient numbers or identify specific hospitals.

Doctors cited in the report advised residents to maintain an appropriate diet, drink four to five litres of water and use umbrellas to protect themselves from direct sunlight. These measures are particularly relevant during the afternoon period, when the city is experiencing the strongest heat. The report did not state whether local authorities had issued a formal heatwave advisory or announced additional public-health measures.

For Pimpri-Chinchwad, the immediate urban concern is the combination of elevated daytime temperatures, dry conditions and fluctuating weather. The available report records the temperature trend and health-related concerns but does not establish how long the hot spell will continue. Further updates would depend on subsequent weather observations and any advisory issued by the relevant authorities.
