Panjab University Releases ₹11 Lakh Aid to Jyoti Yadav’s Family

Panjab University campus linked to the release of aid for Jyoti Yadav’s family

Panjab University has released the pending ₹11 lakh from its announced financial assistance to the family of late PhD scholar Jyoti Yadav, nearly three months after her death on the university campus. The payment completes ₹16 lakh in aid announced by the university, with an initial ₹5 lakh having been disbursed earlier.

The remaining amount was credited to the family’s bank account on Friday night, according to a report by Times of India – Chandigarh. Jyoti, 28, died on July 28 near Girls Hostel Number 8 on the Panjab University campus. The delay in releasing the balance had left her family facing continued financial distress after the loss.

Jyoti’s father, Ravindra Kumar, had stopped working as a school bus driver after her death. His son, Pawan, also left his job in Manesar. The family was subsequently left without a dependable income while carrying more than ₹7 lakh in debt, according to the report.

Kumar said the family’s immediate priority would be to repay people who had lent them money during the period following Jyoti’s death. The payment, he said, would help the family begin restoring financial stability while acknowledging the support it had received during the crisis.

The family lives in Kakrala village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district. Kumar said they hoped to use part of any money remaining after repayment of debts to establish a charitable initiative in Jyoti’s memory for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who lack resources.

The release of the ₹11 lakh resolves the pending balance of the university’s announced aid package, but two other forms of support mentioned in the report have not yet been completed. A university-appointed job for Pawan remains pending, as does a separate insurance payment of ₹2 lakh.

The case highlights how financial assistance announced after a death can become a critical source of support for families that lose both a loved one and their income security. In this instance, the family’s immediate needs include debt repayment, while its longer-term stability remains linked to the pending employment and insurance commitments.

For now, the university’s aid package has reached the family in full. The next pending steps are the appointment promised to Pawan and the release of the separate ₹2 lakh insurance payout.
