Palwal Railway Station to Get ₹12-Crore FOB for Safer Transfers

Palwal railway station will receive a new foot overbridge costing around ₹12 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a project expected to ease platform changes for more than 20,000 daily passengers travelling through the Delhi–Agra rail route.

The proposed foot overbridge will be about 12 metres wide and 100 metres long. According to railway sources cited in the report, its size is intended to allow passengers to move in both directions with greater ease during train arrival and departure periods, when the station experiences heavy crowding.

Palwal is an important station on the Delhi–Agra railway route, serving passengers travelling towards Delhi and Mathura. The report states that between 20,000 and 22,000 daily passengers use the station. Passenger movement rises sharply when trains arrive or leave, creating congestion on the existing foot overbridge and making it difficult for some passengers to reach their platforms on time.

The current foot overbridge was built around 1970 and has been in use for more than five decades. Railway sources said its width and structure are no longer considered adequate for the station’s present passenger volume. The report also said that the existing bridge has been reported to experience noticeable vibrations when large numbers of passengers use it at the same time.

The proposed bridge is expected to allow passengers to change platforms without crossing the railway tracks. Its planned width of 12 metres is considerably larger than the separate foot overbridge currently under construction at the station. That bridge is around 20 feet wide and 109 feet long, and is being built at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore.

Railway officials cited in the report expect the under-construction bridge to be completed this month. Once it is ready and opened for passenger use, the existing foot overbridge is planned to be demolished and replaced with the wider structure proposed under the station redevelopment programme.

The sequencing is intended to maintain platform connectivity while the older bridge is taken down. Until the new works are completed, passengers will continue to depend on the existing bridge and the additional facility under construction for movement between platforms. The report did not specify the construction start date or completion deadline for the proposed ₹12-crore foot overbridge.
