Overbridge Work Prompts One-Night Traffic Curbs in Thiruvananthapuram

Traffic restrictions have been announced in Thiruvananthapuram for June 30 due to construction of an overbridge. The temporary diversions will affect key routes between Enchakkal and Kallummoodu from 10 p.m. on June 30 to 6 a.m. on July 1. Commuters are advised to follow the suggested alternate routes to avoid congestion and delays around the work zone.

Authorities have imposed temporary traffic diversions on the Enchakkal–Kallummoodu stretch as part of overbridge construction. The work is scheduled overnight, affecting vehicular movement during peak late-evening and early-morning hours. To ensure public safety and uninterrupted construction, several traffic redirections will be enforced. These changes are expected to impact both heavy and light vehicles travelling through key junctions in Thiruvananthapuram’s southern transit corridor. Heavy vehicles coming from Kovalam towards East Fort and Kazhakuttam will not be allowed on the Enchakkal–Kallummoodu route. Instead, alternate paths via Thiruvallam, Ambalathara, Kamaleswaram, and Manacaud have been recommended. These detours are aimed at reducing congestion near the construction site and ensuring smoother traffic movement through alternative local roads.

Light motor vehicles travelling to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport are required to divert from Paruthikuzhy, taking the service road and then proceeding via Kallummoodu junction to Valiyathura. Similarly, vehicles heading from Attakulangara to Chakka must avoid Enchakkal and use the route through Vazhappally, Sreekanteswaram, Uppidamoodu, Naalumukku, and Pettah instead. The changes are temporary but crucial to manage flow. For vehicles bound for Muttathara from Attakulangara, two alternate routes have been suggested — via Manacaud-Kallummoodu or Manacaud-Kamaleswaram. These diversions aim to balance the city’s traffic flow while ensuring the safety of both road users and workers at the construction site. Commuters are advised to plan ahead and follow directional signage placed along detour points during the restriction period.

The traffic curbs around Enchakkal and Kallummoodu are part of a broader infrastructure push to improve road connectivity in Thiruvananthapuram. While temporary, the diversions may cause inconvenience to daily commuters. Residents and travellers are urged to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow alternate routes to avoid delays. The city police have assured timely updates and route clearance once work is completed.
