Omfed milk price hikes will take effect across Odisha from October 4, raising the cost of toned, premium, Gold and Gold Plus milk for households, tea stalls and businesses that use dairy products. The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation has revised the retail prices after the state government increased the procurement rate paid to dairy farmers.
Under the revised rates, toned milk will cost Rs 58 per litre, up from Rs 54. Premium milk will rise from Rs 58 to Rs 60 per litre. Gold milk will be priced at Rs 62 per litre and Gold Plus at Rs 66 per litre, with both varieties increasing by Rs 2 per litre.
For 500 ml pouches, the new prices are Rs 29 for toned milk, Rs 30 for premium milk, Rs 31 for Gold and Rs 33 for Gold Plus. Omfed said the revised rates would apply across the state from October 4 and would supersede all previous office orders on milk pricing.
The federation issued the notification after the Odisha government raised the milk procurement price by Rs 2 per litre on September 8. This was the second procurement-price increase in 2026, following an earlier increase of Re 1 per litre in May. The changes were intended to support dairy farmers amid higher costs for feed, fodder, medicines and livestock maintenance, according to Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik.
The revision is likely to affect businesses that sell prepared beverages and milk-based products. Tea and coffee stalls may face higher input costs, while products such as paneer, curd, cheese and ghee could also become more expensive if producers pass on the increase through their supply chains.
Tophan Mahabhoi, who runs a tea stall in Patia, Bhubaneswar, said he would have to consider raising the price of tea. He cited the higher cost of toned milk along with a recent increase in sugar prices, saying there was no option but to increase the price of a cup of tea.
The price revision also reflects the scale of Omfed’s procurement network. The federation collects around seven lakh litres of milk every day from more than 3.2 lakh dairy farmers. The procurement-price increases therefore affect both the retail market and the income framework for a large network of producers supplying the cooperative.
Alongside the new prices, Omfed has announced changes to promotional schemes for channel partners. It has retained the provision allowing the replacement of milk pouches that are leaky or defective. The revised retail rates will remain applicable across Odisha from October 4 under the federation’s latest office order.
