Odisha’s Mangoes Take Flight to Abu Dhabi via Bhubaneswar

Odisha’s export sector, the state has inaugurated its first direct international flight connecting Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi. This new route, operated by IndiGo Airlines, is poised to bolster trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Odisha and the United Arab Emirates. The inaugural flight, launched under the state’s Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative, departed from Biju Patnaik International Airport on Thursday.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi flagged off the service, emphasizing its potential to enhance Odisha’s global connectivity. The flight operates thrice weekly—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—reducing travel time to just four hours. A notable highlight of the inaugural flight was the export of 50 tonnes of premium Amrapali mangoes from Odisha. This marks a significant milestone in the state’s agricultural export efforts, showcasing the potential of direct air connectivity in facilitating perishable goods trade.

Fast Logistics, a key player in the logistics sector, played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth export of the mangoes. As the designated freight forwarding and customs clearance partner, Fast Logistics coordinated with mango producers and exporters for timely delivery to the Bhubaneswar airport. The company also secured cargo space on the inaugural flight, facilitated customs documentation, and managed cold chain integrity throughout the transit. The successful export operation underscores the importance of efficient logistics in international trade, particularly for perishable commodities. Fast Logistics’ expertise in handling time-sensitive cargo was instrumental in maintaining the quality of the mangoes during transit.

The introduction of the direct flight is expected to open new avenues for Odisha’s exporters, providing them with enhanced access to the Gulf region. Industry observers note that the role of logistics partners like Fast Logistics is critical in making such international corridors viable, ensuring that products reach their destinations in optimal condition. This development aligns with Odisha’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the global trade landscape. The state’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity is evident in initiatives like the B-MAAN scheme, which aims to transform Odisha into a regional aviation hub.

As the new flight service becomes operational, it is anticipated to stimulate economic growth, attract investment, and promote cultural exchange between Odisha and the UAE. The successful export of mangoes aboard the inaugural flight serves as a testament to the potential of direct air connectivity in facilitating international trade and enhancing the state’s economic prospects.
