Odisha has received the Wind India 2026 Award for “Leadership in Wind Energy De-risking”, highlighting the state’s efforts to make wind-power projects more viable for investors and strengthen its renewable-energy infrastructure pipeline.
The award was presented at the Windergy India 2026 summit to Dr Satyapriya Rath, Managing Director of GRIDCO, by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi. Industry leaders and government representatives were also present at the event, according to Pragativadi.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the recognition reflected the state government’s commitment to accelerating Odisha’s clean-energy transition, attracting private investment and creating an enabling environment for sustainable power generation under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy.
The award comes as Odisha seeks to position itself as an emerging destination for wind-energy development. During its participation in Windergy India 2026, the state organised a dedicated session titled “Odisha: India’s Next Wind Destination” to present its wind potential to domestic and international investors.
The state session was led by GRIDCO managing director Dr Satyapriya Rath, who outlined Odisha’s strategic advantages and policy measures intended to convert its wind resources into projects that can secure financing and be developed at scale. The discussion was organised around the theme “From Potential to Investment”.
The focus on de-risking is significant because wind projects require more than an identified resource. The session identified wind-resource assessment and bankability, land and site readiness, grid connectivity, turbine logistics and long-term regulatory certainty as key execution requirements. These factors determine whether a proposed project can move from an early-stage opportunity to construction and eventual power generation.
For Odisha, grid connectivity and site readiness will be particularly important to the practical delivery of new renewable-energy capacity. Wind projects depend on suitable land, access for large equipment, transmission connections and predictable approvals. The state’s presentation at the summit therefore placed the development of an investment ecosystem alongside its assessment of wind potential.
GRIDCO’s participation also puts the state transmission utility at the centre of the investment proposition. Reliable grid access is necessary for evacuating electricity generated by wind projects, while clear regulatory conditions can influence the timing and financial viability of private developments. The source material, however, does not specify the number of projects, proposed capacity, investment commitments or implementation timelines associated with the state’s current wind plans.
The Wind India 2026 award and the investor-focused state session together mark a public effort by Odisha to attract participation in renewable-energy development. The next stage will depend on how the policy framework is translated into site-ready projects, grid connections and bankable proposals. The state’s renewable-energy policy and the execution pillars presented at the summit are expected to guide that process.
