Noida Underpass Plan Targets Parthala Junction’s Traffic Gridlock

Proposed Noida underpass area near Parthala Chowk and the FNG Corridor

A six-lane Noida underpass is being proposed beneath the Signature Bridge at Parthala Chowk to ease daily congestion on the FNG Corridor, with the detailed project report expected to reach the Noida Authority next week.

The proposed underpass is expected to cost around Rs 80 crore, although the final project cost will be determined after the design undergoes technical scrutiny and construction-related investigations are completed. The Noida Authority has prepared and released the design, which is currently being examined by IIT Delhi.

Once the DPR is received, the proposal will be placed before the Noida Authority board for approval. The tendering process will begin after the board grants clearance, followed by soil testing and other construction formalities. The project has been assigned an 18-month implementation period, although construction can begin only after the approval and tender stages are completed.

According to the proposal, the Noida underpass will be approximately 710 metres long and will provide three lanes in each direction. Its planned structure includes a 110-metre reinforced cement concrete box, a 20-metre open section and 280-metre approach roads at both ends.

The design also includes a pumping system to manage waterlogging during rainfall. Construction is proposed through diaphragm wall technology, which is intended to protect nearby land and existing structures during excavation. The final technical design and cost will depend on the ongoing review and subsequent site investigations.

Parthala Chowk is a key junction connecting the FNG Corridor with Vikas Marg and routes towards Ghaziabad, National Highway 9, the Meerut Expressway, the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and other parts of Noida. Traffic queues regularly build up during the morning and evening peak periods, particularly as vehicles converge from multiple regional directions.

The proposed project is expected to improve traffic movement on the FNG Corridor and reduce pressure at the junction if it is approved and completed. Residents of sectors 66, 71, 121 and 122, as well as people living near Chhijarsi and Kisan Chowk, are among those expected to benefit from smoother movement.

The corridor’s importance is also expected to increase as direct connectivity with Faridabad develops. The Noida Authority’s immediate milestones are the receipt of the DPR, completion of the IIT Delhi technical review, board approval, tendering and the start of construction. Until those steps are completed, the underpass remains a proposed project rather than an operational traffic solution.
