The 460-metre skywalk connecting Noida Sector 51 Metro station with Sector 52 Metro station opened on Sunday, allowing passengers to transfer between the Noida Metro Rail Corporation and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation networks without descending onto the road. The facility is expected to benefit more than 20,000 passengers daily by reducing walking time and exposure to traffic.
Noida MLA Pankaj Singh formally inaugurated the skywalk and walked across it after the ceremony to inspect the facilities and arrangements. Officials were present during the inauguration and briefed him on the construction and passenger-related provisions, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR.
The connection links the NMRC station at Sector 51 with the DMRC station at Sector 52. Passengers changing between the two metro systems had earlier faced the inconvenience of travelling between the stations while dealing with the distance and the need to cross or move alongside a busy road. The new structure is intended to provide a direct pedestrian route between the two stations.
According to the report, the skywalk has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 37 crore. Its primary purpose is to provide safer and more convenient connectivity for passengers using the two metro networks. The facility also creates a formal interchange route between systems that operate under separate agencies.
The opening is particularly relevant for passengers who use one network for part of their journey and need to transfer to the other at Sector 51 and Sector 52. By keeping passengers off the road, the skywalk is expected to reduce the risks associated with walking through mixed traffic while making the transfer more orderly.
The project also addresses a long-standing gap in the physical connection between the two stations. Although the stations serve as an interchange point for passengers travelling through Noida and towards Delhi, the transfer experience previously depended on surface-level pedestrian movement. The new link shifts that movement to a dedicated elevated facility.
The inauguration comes as Noida continues to rely on connections between its own metro network and the wider Delhi-NCR transit system. The NMRC network serves Noida, while the DMRC station provides access to Delhi Metro services. A direct pedestrian link between the stations is therefore expected to support greater movement between the two systems, although the supplied report does not provide separate figures for interchange volumes or travel-time savings.
Officials described the skywalk as an important addition to the city’s transport infrastructure. The facility is now available for passengers travelling between Sector 51 and Sector 52, with the project’s immediate operational purpose being to make the interchange safer, more convenient and better organised.
