Noida Metro Corridors Drive 20,000-Hectare Industrial Expansion Plan

Proposed Noida metro corridors linking industrial and transport hubs across the expanding city

The Noida Authority has prepared a plan to expand the city across nearly 20,000 hectares and develop it as a major industrial centre in Uttar Pradesh, with three new metro corridors proposed to connect emerging industrial and transport hubs, according to a report by Navbharat Times.

The proposed expansion is expected to be implemented in phases, with the land acquisition process for the new industrial city set to begin soon, the report said. The authority is responding to rising investment and industrial demand as available land within the existing urban area becomes limited.

The plan includes proposed metro links between the multimodal transport hub at Bodaki, Botanical Garden and Char Murti, extending towards Gaur City. The authority has also prepared a separate plan to modernise freight movement and transport facilities as industrial activity expands in the area.

The report said around 120 large projects worth approximately Rs 35,000 crore are expected to be brought to the ground during the upcoming fifth Ground Breaking Ceremony. The projects are reported to include data centres, electronics manufacturing units, commercial real estate, logistics and institutional developments.

According to the report, the proposed industrial expansion could create direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than five lakh young people by 2030. This is a projection associated with the proposed development and is dependent on the implementation of the expansion, land acquisition and the projects included in the plan.

The report also cited Noida’s existing contribution to Uttar Pradesh’s economy. The city is estimated to account for about 10 per cent of the state’s gross state domestic product and around 60 per cent of its total electronics and information technology exports. Companies including Samsung, Dixon, TCS, Infosys, HCL, Microsoft and Adobe have operations in the city.

Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Krishna Karunesh said efforts were being made to take Noida to new heights across sectors and attract more large investors. He said the development of the new Noida would focus on stronger connectivity and modern facilities.

The proposed expansion will require the authority to move from investment announcements to land assembly, transport planning and project implementation. The next stated milestones are the phased start of land acquisition and the unveiling of the identified projects during the fifth Ground Breaking Ceremony.
