Noida Airport Signs MoU for Delhi-NCR Electric Air Taxi Network

Noida International Airport has signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech startup The ePlane Company to develop an electric air taxi service linking the airport with Delhi-NCR and supporting emergency medical transport.

The proposed service will use the company’s e200X electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Unlike conventional aircraft, the vehicle is designed to take off and land vertically, similar to a helicopter, reducing the need for a conventional runway for air taxi operations.

Under the agreement, The ePlane Company will work on the infrastructure, safety framework and operating arrangements required for the service. The planned facilities at the Noida airport campus include a vertiport for take-offs and landings, charging stations and a testing area for the aircraft.

The airport will also modify its standard operating procedures to accommodate advanced air mobility operations. The company, meanwhile, will be responsible for obtaining the necessary approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and other regulatory agencies before commercial operations can begin.

The proposed network is intended to provide airport-to-airport connectivity between Noida International Airport and Delhi Airport, as well as links to other parts of the National Capital Region. The arrangement could add an aviation-based connection between major airport facilities, although the supplied announcement does not specify a launch date, route map, fares or passenger capacity.

The service is also being planned for emergency medical transport. According to the report, the aircraft could be used to move critically ill patients quickly between Delhi Airport, Noida Airport and other locations in the NCR. The company has also described the aircraft as an environmentally friendly option because it uses electric propulsion and is intended to operate without direct carbon emissions.

The ePlane Company’s founder and director, Dr Satyam Narayanan Chakravarthy, said the MoU would support the testing of the operating model through drone trials before the company progresses towards flights using piloted e200X aircraft. The statement indicates that the project will move through testing and regulatory stages before any passenger service can be introduced.

Noida International Airport chairman Daniel Bircher said incorporating advanced air mobility into the airport’s infrastructure was part of its commitment to seamless and future-ready connectivity. The airport’s planned vertiport and charging facilities would make it one of the infrastructure sites in the region being prepared to accommodate newer forms of urban aviation.

The proposal places Noida Airport within the emerging advanced-air-mobility segment, but its implementation will depend on aircraft testing, safety approvals, operating procedures and the creation of supporting infrastructure. The immediate next steps are the proposed drone trials, development of the vertiport and charging facilities, and regulatory engagement for future piloted e200X flights.
