Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has asked patients, attendants and visitors to use public transport during three months of phased cement-concrete road works being carried out by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) within the hospital campus. The hospital said parking will be severely restricted during the construction period and urged visitors to avoid bringing private vehicles unless necessary.
The advisory was issued on Tuesday as the road-laying work began across multiple sections of the NIMS premises. According to the hospital, the project will affect internal routes and parking areas, making movement within the campus more difficult during the three-month construction period.
The affected locations include the Punjagutta entry and exit gates, the Millennium and Physiotherapy Block, the Dialysis Waiting Area, the Wellness Centre, the NPR Block and the staff parking area near Union Bank. Work will also affect the route leading to the Nursing hostel, doctors’ parking in front of the Doctors’ Club, the path to the Central Sterile Supply Department and General Stores, the portico and the common parking area.
NIMS said the restrictions were necessary to minimise congestion and facilitate the movement of vehicles within the hospital campus. The administration also identified uninterrupted access for ambulances and other emergency services as a key reason for asking visitors to limit private vehicle use.
The disruption is likely to be most significant for patients requiring repeated hospital visits, people accompanying patients and visitors who usually depend on on-campus parking. NIMS has not announced an alternative parking arrangement in the advisory, making public transport the main option specified for reaching the hospital during the works.
The road works will be implemented in phases across the listed campus zones. Until the project is completed, visitors have been advised to plan their journeys around restricted parking and internal construction activity. The hospital’s request is intended to keep access routes clear while GHMC carries out the three-month upgrade.
