NH 65 Six-Laning Set to Start in January as Bids Close Nov 11

NH 65 six-laning corridor carrying traffic between Hyderabad and Vijayawada

The six-laning of National Highway 65 between Hyderabad and Vijayawada is scheduled to begin in January 2027, after the National Highways Authority of India fixed November 11, 2026, as the deadline for companies to submit bids for the expansion project.

The project will widen the existing four-lane highway and add service roads on both sides, along with controlled-access facilities. NH 65 connects Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam, making the corridor important for inter-city travel and regional movement between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana Roads Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy raised the project during a meeting with NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and member (projects) Vipnesh Sharma in Delhi on Monday. The minister asked the highway authority to expedite the tendering process and begin construction without delay, citing rising traffic volumes and frequent accidents on the route.

According to the report, Yadav assured the minister that work would commence by January 2027. The immediate project milestone is the bid submission deadline on November 11, after which the tendering process will determine the agency or agencies responsible for executing the highway expansion.

The proposed widening is intended to improve traffic flow on the existing corridor, reduce travel time and strengthen road safety. The inclusion of service roads is expected to separate local access movements from through traffic at relevant stretches, while controlled-access facilities are planned as part of the upgraded highway design.

The announcement also places responsibility on both the Central highway authority and the Telangana government for coordinating implementation. Reddy said the state Roads and Buildings department would work with Central agencies to support timely execution of the project.

The highway’s expansion comes as traffic and safety concerns have become more prominent on the existing route. However, the report does not specify the project’s total length, estimated cost, land requirement, construction package structure or completion deadline. Those details are expected to become clearer through the tendering and subsequent implementation process.

The next formal milestone is the November 11 deadline for submission of bids. Subject to the tendering process, construction is scheduled to start in January 2027.
