The National Highways Authority of India has set November 11 as the deadline for tender submissions for the six-laning of NH-65 between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, with construction expected to begin in January 2027, Telangana roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said after meeting senior NHAI officials in New Delhi.
The proposed NH-65 expansion covers the existing four-lane highway connecting Hyderabad with Vijayawada and extending towards Machilipatnam. The project includes widening the corridor to six lanes, building service roads on both sides and developing controlled-access facilities, according to the minister’s account of the meeting.
Komatireddy met NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and member (projects) Vipnesh Sharma to press for faster implementation. He raised concerns about increasing traffic congestion and frequent accidents on the Hyderabad–Machilipatnam stretch, describing NH-65 as a critical transport corridor for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The minister urged the highway authority to expedite the tendering process, prioritise commuter safety and begin construction without further delay. The NHAI chairman responded positively to the request and assured him that work would commence by January 2027, Komatireddy said.
NH-65 carries thousands of daily commuters and motorists between the two states, while also serving commercial and freight movement along the corridor. The proposed service roads are intended to separate local traffic and access movements from through traffic on the main highway. The source report did not provide the project’s estimated cost, package-wise construction details, land acquisition requirements or the planned completion date.
The expansion is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and travel time, and strengthen road safety once completed. However, the immediate milestone is the tendering process, with November 11 set as the submission deadline. Komatireddy said the Telangana government would coordinate with central agencies to support the timely execution and completion of the project.
