NEEPCO Profit Hits Record Rs 769 Crore as Power Capacity Expands

North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has recorded its highest-ever profit after tax of Rs 769.08 crore for 2025-26, while operating 2,051 MW of installed power capacity in the Northeast, the public-sector utility said on Friday.

The company said its Northeast portfolio comprises 1,519 MW of hydropower, 527 MW of gas-based power and 5 MW of solar power. Citing National Power Portal data, NEEPCO said its installed capacity accounts for about 32.6% of the region’s total installed capacity of 6,298 MW.

The figures place the utility among the key institutions shaping electricity infrastructure in the Northeast, where its generation portfolio spans multiple states and fuel sources. NEEPCO’s major facilities include the 600 MW Kameng Hydroelectric Power Station in Arunachal Pradesh, which was commissioned in 2020-21.

The company is also pursuing renewable-energy expansion outside the Northeast. It said it is developing a 300 MW ground-mounted solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. NEEPCO said the project and its other initiatives are expected to increase power-generation capacity and support India’s clean-energy transition.

The utility’s current portfolio remains dominated by hydropower, which accounts for most of its installed capacity in the Northeast. Gas-based generation makes up the second-largest component, while solar currently represents a small share of the total capacity reported by the company.

NEEPCO also outlined community initiatives covering education, healthcare, sanitation, skill development, community infrastructure and support for economically disadvantaged groups. These activities are being undertaken alongside its power-generation operations.

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, the company recently adopted the MUDA Shopping Complex at Khyndailad in Shillong’s Police Bazar area as a cleanliness target unit. The initiative includes removing paan and lime stains, cleaning walls and surfaces, and addressing littering at the shopping complex.

NEEPCO’s next stated areas of activity are the development of the Bikaner solar project, continued operation of its Northeast generation assets and implementation of its community programmes, including the cleanliness drive in Shillong.
