Nashik Civic Works Surge as 900 Projects Worth Rs90 Crore Move Ahead

Nashik Municipal Corporation has received more than 900 proposals for local infrastructure works estimated at nearly Rs90 crore after allowing projects costing up to Rs10 lakh to be executed without inviting tenders, according to civic officials quoted by the Times of India.

The proposals have been submitted by corporators to the NMC’s public works department and cover paver-block installation, road macadamisation, drainage improvements and other local works across Nashik. Each proposal is capped at Rs10 lakh and is expected to be executed through unemployed engineers and labour co-operative construction societies.

An NMC official told the Times of India that the city’s 122 corporators had submitted around seven to eight proposals each. The volume of submissions means that the corporation must now examine a large number of small projects before any work can begin.

The proposals will first be scrutinised by the civic body’s finance and accounts department. They will then be placed before a committee headed by the additional municipal commissioner for examination and approval. City engineer Sanjay Agrwal had also clarified during a recent general body meeting that the proposals would be placed before the committee responsible for approving the projects.

The arrangement follows a state government resolution permitting development works costing up to Rs10 lakh to be allotted to approved co-operative societies without the regular tendering process. Under Public Works Department norms, such projects are generally executed through offline tendering involving unemployed engineers and labour co-operatives.

Civic officials said the change was intended to reduce procedural delays and speed up smaller but essential development works. The decision places the focus on how quickly ward-level requirements can be converted into sanctioned projects while the corporation completes its financial and administrative scrutiny.

The NMC has already made allocations under corporators’ funds and ward development funds for the 2026-27 financial year, the official said. Unspent allocations from the previous financial year will also be carried forward, increasing the amount available for local works.

Sources cited by the Times of India said each corporator was likely to have about Rs77 lakh for ward-level works during the year. Including carried-forward allocations, the total pool available under these heads is estimated at about Rs93 crore. The figure is broadly aligned with the combined value of the proposals submitted so far, although the projects remain subject to scrutiny and committee approval.

The proposal process will determine which works receive administrative clearance and how the available funds are distributed across the city. The next formal step is the examination of the submissions by the finance and accounts department and the committee headed by the additional municipal commissioner.
