Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha has ordered an inquiry into the death of a youth and illness among several people after they ate at One Palace Restaurant in Narsapur, in Medak district, the Deccan Chronicle reported on Wednesday.
The deceased youth has been identified as Sairam. The minister expressed grief over his death and conveyed condolences to his family. He also directed senior health officials to ensure that people undergoing treatment receive the best possible medical care and that their health is monitored continuously.
The incident has prompted the state health department to examine whether the food served at the restaurant contributed to the illnesses and death. Food safety officials have been instructed to collect samples and send them for testing to establish the cause of the incident.
Officials will also examine whether the restaurant complied with prescribed requirements covering food preparation, storage, quality and hygiene. The inquiry is expected to determine whether any food safety violations or negligence occurred at the establishment.
Rajanarsimha directed officials to initiate legal action against those responsible if violations of food safety regulations or negligence are established during the investigation. The minister said negligence that endangers public health would not be tolerated, according to the report.
The episode has also led to instructions for intensified inspections of hotels, restaurants and other food establishments across Medak district. These inspections are intended to identify breaches in food handling and hygiene standards and reduce the risk of similar incidents.
The health department’s immediate response combines medical monitoring with regulatory investigation. The food sample testing and examination of the restaurant’s compliance records will be central to determining whether the illnesses were linked to contaminated food, unsafe storage, poor preparation practices or another cause. No final finding from the inquiry was available in the supplied report.
The minister has asked senior officials to continue monitoring the condition of those receiving treatment while the food safety investigation proceeds. Further action, including possible legal proceedings, will depend on the findings of the tests and inquiry.
