Pune district authorities began preparing the Donje Nanawadi farmhouse premises for actor Nana Patekar’s funeral on Thursday morning, deploying officials, machinery, sanitation workers and police personnel as admirers travelled towards the Sinhagad area for a final farewell.
According to a report by Sakal – Pune, the funeral arrangements were undertaken at the Donje farmhouse in accordance with Patekar’s final wishes and the decision of his family. Officers and employees reached the site from 9 am, while preparations began for the ceremony and the expected gathering of visitors.
The administrative response brought together officials from the district administration, police, public works and regional planning authorities. Pune district superintendent of police Sandeep Singh Gill, Haveli sub-divisional officer Dr Yashwant Mane, tehsildar Archana Nikam and public works department deputy engineer D. J. Patil were among those present at the location, the report said.
Gill inspected the proposed funeral site and issued instructions on the arrangements required. The administration then took up cleaning and preparation of the premises. A JCB, tractors, a roller and workers were used to clear and level the area, allowing the basic facilities for the funeral to be assembled within a few hours.
Under the guidance of the public works department, officials began constructing a 20-by-20-foot platform at the location. The report said cement blocks were placed to form the structure, with murum used as filling material. Large and fine aggregate were then laid over it to strengthen the platform. Machinery was used to complete the work rapidly.
The arrangements also extended beyond the farmhouse. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s health department cleaned the roads and surrounding areas from beyond Khadakwasla village through Gorhe Budruk, Donje and Paygude Wadi, according to the report. Employees of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority were also present in the area.
The preparations coincided with a growing flow of admirers from Pune city and different parts of the district. Many travelled towards Donje and the Sinhagad region to pay their last respects, creating a large gathering around the funeral venue and a visibly sombre atmosphere in Paygude Wadi.
The episode placed several routine urban functions—road cleaning, site preparation, police deployment and coordination between civic and district agencies—into a compressed response around a high-profile public gathering. The authorities’ immediate task was to make the venue usable while maintaining basic order and cleanliness along the approach roads.
The report did not provide details of the funeral’s final timings or any further crowd-management measures beyond the preparations undertaken by the administration and civic agencies. Officials and workers remained engaged at the Donje site as arrangements for the ceremony progressed.
