Nana Patekar’s funeral is expected to be held at his farmhouse in Donje, Pune district, with Maharashtra authorities preparing a state funeral and increasing police deployment to manage the expected public gathering, according to a report by Lokmat – Pune.
The report said the veteran actor died in Goa at the age of 75 after suffering a heart attack. His mortal remains are expected to be brought to Pune, after which arrangements will be made for members of the public to pay their last respects. The funeral venue at Donje is being prepared by the administration in accordance with his reported wish to be cremated at the farmhouse.
The Maharashtra government has decided to conduct the funeral with state honours in recognition of Patekar’s contribution to Marathi and Hindi cinema. Government officials and staff from multiple departments have been deployed at the site, while the Public Works Department and other agencies are handling the required arrangements, the report said.
The expected turnout has led Pune Rural Police to strengthen security around Donje. Fans, local residents and prominent figures from the film industry are expected to attend, creating the possibility of significant movement around the farmhouse and surrounding roads. Police planning is focused on maintaining law and order, regulating the gathering and providing security for potential VIP visitors.
The exact list of VIP attendees had not been confirmed by police at the time of the report. That uncertainty means the security plan may have to be adjusted according to the final attendance and the movement of the mortal remains to Pune. The administration is also expected to coordinate the arrival and departure of visitors at the venue.
Traffic management is another immediate concern for the Donje area. Vehicles carrying members of the public and those involved in the funeral arrangements could place pressure on local roads, particularly if people begin arriving before the official schedule is announced. Authorities are taking steps to keep traffic moving and prevent congestion, with the arrangements expected to be modified according to conditions on the ground.
The funeral was expected to take place on Thursday evening, although the precise time was yet to be finalised. The schedule would be decided after the mortal remains reached Pune and after the administration assessed the prevailing arrangements at Donje, according to the report.
Patekar was known for his work in Marathi and Hindi films, theatre and social initiatives. His acting and distinctive dialogue delivery made him a widely recognised figure across several generations of audiences. The immediate administrative response at Donje is now centred on ensuring that the public tribute proceeds with security, orderly access and minimal disruption to local traffic.
