Police security and traffic arrangements have been strengthened in Donje near Pune after Lokmat – Pune reported that veteran actor Nana Patekar’s funeral would be held at his farmhouse in the area on Thursday evening. The report said Maharashtra’s government had decided to conduct the funeral with state honours after his death in Goa at the age of 75.
According to the report, preparations began after Patekar’s mortal remains were expected to be brought to Pune. Arrangements for public viewing were also being planned in the city. Government officers and staff from several departments were deployed at the Donje site, while the Public Works Department and other agencies were assigned to put essential arrangements in place.
The anticipated attendance of fans, citizens and members of the film industry has led Pune Rural Police to increase its deployment in the area. The security plan is intended to manage law and order and regulate the expected crowd. Special attention is also being given to the possible presence of VIPs, although police have not confirmed how many dignitaries will attend or identified them.
Traffic management is another focus of the preparations. Authorities are assessing the likely movement of mourners and vehicles travelling to the farmhouse and are working on measures to keep traffic moving around Donje. The arrangements are expected to be adjusted according to the number of people arriving and the prevailing conditions after the mortal remains reach Pune.
The report said the funeral was expected to take place on Thursday evening, but that the timing could change depending on the situation. The administration’s immediate priorities are crowd movement, vehicle access, security and coordination between the police, public works officials and other departments involved in the arrangements.
Patekar’s reported death has prompted mourning across the Marathi and Hindi film industries. Known for his work in cinema and theatre, as well as his social contributions, he has remained a widely recognised public figure across generations. Further details about the funeral timing and the final security arrangements are expected after the mortal remains arrive in Pune.
