Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat stations in Delhi will remain closed for 25 hours from 9 pm on October 9 to 10 pm on October 10 amid a scheduled Cockroach Janta Party protest in the national capital, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation said.
NCRTC said Namo Bharat services between Anand Vihar in Delhi and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh will continue to operate according to their regular schedule during the closure. The restriction applies specifically to the two Delhi stations on the Delhi-Meerut corridor.
In a statement, NCRTC advised passengers who use Sarai Kale Khan or New Ashok Nagar to plan their journeys in advance and make alternative arrangements. The corporation said the closure would remain in effect from 9:00 pm on October 9, 2026, until 10:00 pm on October 10, 2026.
The announcement means passengers will not be able to board or alight at either of the two stations during the specified period. Commuters travelling on the operational section between Anand Vihar and Modipuram will, however, continue to receive services as scheduled, according to the transport corporation.
The two stations are part of the 82-km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, the country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System. The corridor connects Delhi with Meerut through stations serving Sahibabad, Ghaziabad and Modinagar in Uttar Pradesh.
Built at an estimated cost of around Rs 30,000 crore, the corridor was designed to provide faster regional connectivity between the capital and major urban centres in western Uttar Pradesh. The service has reduced the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to less than an hour, according to the information provided by NCRTC.
Namo Bharat trains have a design speed of 180 kmph and an average operating speed of 90 kmph. Stations are generally spaced about 10 km apart, while trains operate at intervals of approximately eight to 10 minutes. Standard fares on the corridor range from Rs 20 to Rs 210, with premium coach travel costing around 20 per cent more.
The temporary closure illustrates the operational effect that large public gatherings can have on urban transport systems, particularly at stations located in high-demand metropolitan areas. NCRTC’s notice separates the station closures from the wider corridor operation, allowing services on the Anand Vihar-Modipuram section to continue while access to the two Delhi stations is suspended.
Passengers who need to use the affected stations during the closure will have to rely on alternative travel arrangements. NCRTC’s next stated operational milestone is the restoration of access to Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar at 10 pm on October 10, subject to the announced schedule.
