Mysuru Film City Gets ₹729-Crore Cabinet Approval on 160 Acres

Proposed Mysuru film city site in Karnataka's Nanjangud industrial area

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved the construction of an international-standard Mysuru film city at Immavu Industrial Area in Nanjangud taluk, Mysuru district, with an estimated cost of ₹729.43 crore. The project will be established through a public-private partnership on 160 acres and eight guntas of land, according to a report by Prajavani citing decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting.

The approval places the proposed film city within one of Karnataka’s major land and infrastructure decisions announced on October 16. The available Cabinet information identifies the project’s location, land extent, cost and public-private partnership model, but does not specify a construction schedule, the private partner, the facilities to be included or the terms under which the land and project will be developed.

Immavu Industrial Area, where the site is located, falls in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district. The Cabinet’s decision means the project has received approval in principle for development on the identified parcel. Further details on tendering, project structuring and implementation will determine how the approved investment is converted into a functioning film-production destination.

The public-private partnership model indicates that the project is expected to involve both government and private-sector participation. However, the report does not provide details of the proposed financing structure, the responsibilities of the public agency, the role of the private developer or the revenue arrangements. It also does not state whether the ₹729.43-crore estimate covers land-related costs, construction, equipment, internal infrastructure or other project components.

The decision comes alongside approvals for several other regional infrastructure and institutional projects. The Cabinet approved ₹23.60 crore for establishing a horticulture college at Dambal in Mundargi taluk of Gadag district. It also approved a ₹83.40-crore barrage across the Tunga river near the Sharadambe temple at Sringeri and a ₹20-crore wood industry cluster in Karkala taluk of Udupi district.

In Bengaluru, the Cabinet approved the formation of a committee to negotiate with bidders over tenders invited for Packages 1 and 2 of the North-South Corridor project, connecting the Hebbal Estate Mall junction with the HSR Layout–Silk Board junction. The meeting also approved a ₹135.30-crore detailed project report to fill 10 additional tanks under the Madhugiri feeder through the Ettinahole gravity canal chain at kilometre 219 in Madhugiri taluk, Tumakuru district.

For Mysuru, the film city approval raises immediate implementation questions around access, supporting utilities, construction procurement and the integration of a large specialised development with the surrounding industrial area. None of those details were included in the Cabinet information reported by Prajavani. The next publicly available steps are expected to clarify the project’s institutional structure, private-sector participation and execution timeline.
