Mysuru Dasara Flower Show to Bloom with Democracy Theme

Mysuru Dasara flower show preparations at Kuppanna Park with floral displays and garden installations

The Mysuru Dasara flower show will feature a large floral replica of the Vidhana Soudha and other representations linked to India’s democratic institutions at Kuppanna Park, as part of an exhibition scheduled from October 11 to 21.

The exhibition will be organised by the Department of Horticulture at the glasshouse near Harding Circle. The Vidhana Soudha replica will measure 42 feet in width and 15 feet in height and will be decorated with several varieties of flowers. Floral representations of the Constitution and the Ashoka Chakra will also be displayed.

Horticulture Department Deputy Director Roopashree told Prajavani that the democracy theme was finalised following instructions from the district minister in charge to present the importance and beauty of democracy through the flower show. The exhibition will be inaugurated on October 11, the day of the Dasara inauguration, and will remain open until October 21.

The event has been awarded through a tender valued at ₹48 lakh. Officials expect thousands of visitors each day and are preparing the venue accordingly. Around 75,000 flower pots will be used across the glasshouse and the park, with 25 varieties of flowers planned for display. Special flowers are also being brought from locations including Ooty and Pune.

The department said flower-pot arrangement work will begin at the glasshouse on October 2 and in the park on October 5. Alongside the main floral installations, the exhibition will feature representations of the Dasara elephants, Goddess Chamundeshwari and the state government’s five guarantee schemes: Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, Yuva Nidhi and Anna Bhagya. A green canopy will also be created in front of the glasshouse.

This year’s programme will include a kitchen garden display for the first time. Visitors will be shown how leafy vegetables and nutrient-rich produce can be grown at home, either in backyards or on terraces. The department also plans to provide information on horticultural cultivation, its benefits and the government facilities available for such crops.

Adult visitors will be charged ₹60, while children above six years will pay ₹30. Children arriving in uniform will be allowed free entry between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The department said the exhibition is being designed both as a public attraction during Dasara and as an educational display on flowers, household cultivation and horticulture practices.
