A student was killed and several others injured after a temporary lighting truss collapsed during a Dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Nadergul, Rangareddy district, on Saturday night, prompting Adibatla police to register a case against the college management.
According to Telangana Today, the collapse occurred during the institution’s cultural festival while students were participating in the celebrations. Strong winds reportedly caused the lighting structure to fall on students. The report did not identify the deceased student or provide the exact number and condition of those injured.
An Adibatla police official confirmed that a case had been registered against the college management. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including how the temporary lighting structure was installed and whether adequate precautions were taken before the event.
The investigation will also examine the safety arrangements made by the organisers for the Dandiya programme. In particular, investigators are looking into whether the lighting truss had been properly secured against strong winds and whether the structure was suitable for use in a gathering attended by students.
Temporary stages, lighting rigs and decorative structures are commonly installed for institutional and cultural events, but their safety depends on installation, anchoring and precautions suited to local weather conditions. In this case, police are expected to establish how the structure was erected, what measures were taken to stabilise it and what happened immediately before it collapsed.
The incident has raised concerns over the responsibility of event organisers and institutions when temporary infrastructure is installed on campus grounds. The police case places the focus on the college management’s safety arrangements, while the ongoing investigation will determine whether any lapses contributed to the student’s death and the injuries reported at the event.
Adibatla police are continuing to investigate the installation of the lighting structure, the precautions taken by the organisers and the circumstances that led to its collapse.
