Mumbai weather is expected to remain hot and humid on Sunday, October 18, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting dry conditions across the city and surrounding areas over the next 24 hours. No significant rainfall is expected in Mumbai during the forecast period.
The IMD’s October 18 weather bulletin recorded a minimum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius at Colaba, described as above normal, while Santacruz recorded a minimum of 25.6 degrees Celsius, marginally above its normal level. The forecast points to a sharp contrast within the wider Konkan region, where Mumbai is expected to remain dry while isolated parts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg may receive storm activity.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations. The alert does not cover Mumbai, where the agency has forecast dry and humid conditions.
Air quality remained uneven across Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Mumbai’s overall Air Quality Index stood at 130 on the Central Pollution Control Board’s dashboard on Sunday, placing the city in the moderate category. Readings varied between monitoring locations, with Bandra-Kurla Complex recording an AQI of 129, Borivali 120 and Byculla 103.
The regional readings also showed differences between cities. Thane recorded an AQI of 101, while Navi Mumbai’s AQI was 145. The figures indicate that pollution levels were not uniform across the metropolitan region, making monitoring-station-level information relevant for residents, particularly those sensitive to air pollution.
The combination of hot weather and moderate air pollution means residents face two simultaneous outdoor conditions: continued exposure to heat and humidity, and elevated pollution in some neighbourhoods. The report advised residents to limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight while the conditions persist.
According to the IMD forecast, Mumbai and its neighbouring areas are expected to remain dry over the next 24 hours. The weather agency’s yellow alert for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg remains the principal severe-weather warning for the region during the forecast period.
