Mumbai train cancellations and schedule changes will affect more than 6,000 passengers travelling towards Delhi after the Railway Board altered services ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The Railways cited anticipated severe traffic congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations.
The Railway Board has cancelled trains scheduled to arrive in Delhi between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10 if they departed from their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9. Western Railway said the changes followed a communication from the Railway Board regarding expected congestion around the two major terminals.
The Mumbai Central-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12951) and the Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin August Kranti Rajdhani Express (12953) have been rescheduled by five hours. Western Railway has also cancelled the Bandra Terminus-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express (12247), the Dr Ambedkar Nagar-New Delhi Express (20155), the Indore-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express (09309), the Indore-New Delhi Express (12415) and the Sabarmati-New Delhi Express (12957).
On Central Railway, the CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express, which departs in the late afternoon, has also been cancelled. The cancellation is expected to affect more than 1,200 passengers, while Western Railway said more than 5,000 passengers would be impacted by its cancellations and rescheduling.
The affected services connect Mumbai and other cities in western and central India with Delhiās principal long-distance railway terminals. For passengers, the changes may require rebooking, revised onward travel arrangements and additional checks before reaching stations. The Railways has advised passengers to verify the latest train schedules before beginning their journeys.
Passengers who booked tickets online will receive a 100% refund in their accounts, according to the information issued about the disruption. Those who purchased tickets through passenger reservation system counters will have to return to the counters to claim refunds or rebook their journeys.
The changes come as the Cockroach Janata Party has planned a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The party has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The affected train services and refund arrangements remain subject to the latest railway notifications and operational updates.
