The Mumbai One app will soon allow users to book airline tickets, marking a major expansion of the MMRDA-backed platform beyond public transport bookings in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee announced the upgrade at an event marking the app’s first year of operation.
Mukherjee said the app was being upgraded to include air ticket bookings. The announcement adds aviation to a digital platform that currently brings multiple public transport services together under a single interface.
The Mumbai One app currently connects 11 public transport operators, including Metro, suburban rail, BEST, NMMT and the Monorail. It was designed to create a unified digital ecosystem for travel across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, where commuters often use more than one transport system during a single journey.
According to the information shared at the event, more than 1.32 crore tickets have been booked through the app over the past year. The platform has also recorded more than 9.19 lakh registered users during the same period.
Sources said the Metropolitan Region Development Authority also plans to add app-based taxi services and municipal transport buses to the platform in the future. The proposed additions would extend the app’s role from booking tickets on participating public transport systems to covering a wider range of urban and regional travel services.
The airline booking feature is expected to be introduced after the ongoing upgrade is completed. The announcement did not specify a launch date or provide details on the airlines, fares, payment arrangements or booking process that would be available through the app.
