Mumbai Heatwave Warning Brings 35.6°C Heat and Humidity

Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday as hot and humid conditions continued across the city and suburbs, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintained a heatwave warning for parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Maharashtra’s Konkan belt until October 12.

The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies over Mumbai and surrounding areas on Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to remain around 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum near 22 degrees Celsius. No rainfall was recorded in Mumbai or its suburbs during the day, and the combination of heat and humidity added to residents’ discomfort.

Data from the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre showed that the Colaba and Santacruz weather stations each recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius. Santacruz recorded a minimum temperature of 27.5 degrees Celsius. At Colaba, relative humidity was 80 per cent at 8.30 am before falling to 48 per cent by 5.30 pm.

The Regional Meteorological Centre said heatwave conditions were likely at isolated places in districts of South Konkan, while hot and humid weather was expected at isolated locations in North Konkan. The warning comes as maximum temperatures are forecast to rise gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in some parts of Maharashtra.

Several other parts of the state also recorded elevated temperatures. Malegaon recorded Maharashtra’s highest maximum temperature at 38.4 degrees Celsius, while Jalgaon recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 18.2 degrees Celsius.

The IMD forecast indicates that warm and humid conditions are likely to continue across the coastal region through the weekend. Residents may experience greater discomfort during the afternoon, when high temperatures combine with humidity. The warning remains in force until October 12, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai.
