Mohali’s final voter list has fallen by 1,06,854 electors after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026, leaving 7,47,569 registered voters in the district. The final rolls were released on October 12 after a door-to-door verification exercise and a claims-and-objections process conducted by election officials.
The final electorate remains substantially below the initial figure of 8,54,423 voters. The draft rolls published on August 13 had listed 7,00,719 voters, meaning 46,850 electors were added during the subsequent scrutiny process. However, the election department has not provided a detailed break-up of deletions, fresh inclusions and other factors that led to the overall reduction.
The revision began on June 25, with 838 booth-level officers carrying out door-to-door verification and collecting voter information until July 24. Political parties deployed 3,160 booth-level agents to assist with the exercise. The process was intended to check voter records and identify cases requiring correction or further examination.
The draft rolls had recorded 3,62,751 men, 3,37,954 women and 14 third-gender electors. At that stage, officials reported that 84,795 voters could not be mapped, while 1,09,419 cases had logical discrepancies requiring additional scrutiny. Claims and objections were accepted until September 12, after which electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers examined the cases before preparing the final list.
Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Komal Mittal handed over the final rolls to representatives of recognised political parties on October 12. The parties received hard copies containing photographs and digital copies without photographs. The final rolls are also available with the concerned booth-level officers, electoral registration officers and the district election office.
Dera Bassi has the highest number of electors among the district’s three constituencies, with 2,79,857 voters. Kharar has 2,65,702 voters, while Mohali has 2,02,010. Compared with the draft rolls, Kharar added 18,780 voters, Dera Bassi added 18,775 and Mohali added 9,295.
The scale of the reduction places particular importance on the continuing correction mechanism. Residents who find that their names are missing from the final rolls can apply for inclusion through Form 6 during the continuous updation process. The election department’s decision not to publish a detailed category-wise account of deletions means that the precise reasons behind the decline in the district’s electorate remain unspecified in the information released so far.
The final rolls will remain accessible through booth-level officers, electoral registration officers and the district election office as residents check their records and submit inclusion applications where required.
