Mizoram infrastructure projects received a major push on Monday as Union DoNER minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia inaugurated the Aizawl Institute of Arts & Music and launched nine other development works across the state, covering roads, electricity, water supply, healthcare, accommodation and sports facilities.
Scindia inaugurated the institute at Tuivamit Tlang and virtually laid the foundation stones for the nine projects in the presence of Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma, PWD minister Vanlalhlana, art and culture minister C Lalsawivunga and chief minister’s adviser for finance and planning TBC Lalvenchhunga.
The road-related works include the upgradation of the Daido-Vangkawt Road, construction of links between Pukzing and Silsuri and between Tualpui and Champhai, and the improvement of oil palm link roads in Kolasib, Mamit, Lunglei and Lawngtlai districts. These works are intended to strengthen connections between settlements and areas linked to agricultural production.
The infrastructure package also includes a 132-kV single-circuit transmission line on double-circuit towers from Bairabi to West Phaileng via Mamit, along with associated bays. The state has also received a project for augmenting the North Vanlaiphai water supply scheme, addressing another core public utility requirement.
Other projects launched on Monday include an AYUSH Development Centre at MINECO, a 40-bed hostel for the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife School at Zemabawk and sports infrastructure development across Mizoram. The mix of projects places basic connectivity and utilities alongside institutional and social infrastructure.
The projects are being implemented under various schemes of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, including the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme and the North Eastern Council. The announcement did not provide individual project costs or completion timelines.
Scindia said around 375 projects being implemented in Mizoram under the DoNER ministry were at different stages, with 75% already completed. He urged residents to make effective use of the new infrastructure and development opportunities. He also said the Northeast was central to India’s development goals and stressed the need to preserve Mizoram’s cultural heritage while pursuing development.
Lalduhoma thanked the Union minister for his contribution to the development of Mizoram and expressed confidence that the projects launched on Monday would improve people’s lives. The next stages for the individual works will depend on implementation under their respective DoNER and North Eastern Council schemes.
