McCain Expands Gujarat Food Manufacturing With Falcon Deal

McCain Gujarat acquisition expands a potato processing facility and farm-linked manufacturing network

McCain Foods has agreed to acquire Falcon Agrifriz Foods’ frozen potato processing business in Gujarat, expanding its manufacturing network in the state and strengthening its capacity to serve domestic and export markets.

The transaction, announced on Monday, covers Falcon Agrifriz’s potato processing facility in Gujarat. McCain did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, which remains subject to customary closing conditions.

The facility produces frozen potato products for Indian and international markets and has more than 450 employees. Falcon Agrifriz also has relationships with over 1,000 farmers across Gujarat, linking the processing operation to a substantial regional agricultural network.

McCain said the acquisition would complement its existing operations in Mehsana, Gujarat. The company described the deal as part of its long-term growth strategy for India and said it would create a stronger platform to support future growth, meet rising domestic demand and serve key export markets.

The announcement follows McCain’s recent investment in India, including the completion of a C$135 million expansion of its existing Gujarat operations. The company said the latest acquisition would further strengthen its manufacturing footprint in the state, although it did not provide details on planned changes to production capacity, capital expenditure or the integration of Falcon’s operations.

“India continues to be a priority growth market for McCain Foods. This acquisition reflects our confidence in the Indian market and builds on nearly three decades of continued investment in our people, local operations and agricultural partnerships,” Pierre Danet, Regional President, Asia Pacific and South Africa at McCain Foods, said in a statement.

The deal places agricultural relationships and industrial processing capacity at the centre of McCain’s next phase of expansion in India. Potato processing depends on reliable farm linkages, specialised facilities and distribution networks capable of moving frozen products to domestic and international customers. The company said the acquisition would allow it to build on Falcon’s existing employee and grower relationships as part of its broader farming partner network in India.

Falcon Agrifriz Vice Chairman Parthajeet Patnaik said the company was proud of the modern, fully automated facility it had built in less than two years, as well as the employees and growers involved in the operation.

Aditya Krishna, Managing Director of McCain Foods India, said the company looked forward to welcoming Falcon employees and growers into the McCain network. He added that the company intended to continue creating local employment opportunities and supporting regional industrial development as it entered the next phase of its growth in India.

The immediate next step is the completion of the customary closing conditions. Until the transaction closes, McCain’s final operating arrangements for the Falcon facility, its workforce and its grower network remain subject to the completion of the acquisition process.
