Marco Rubio India Visit Links Mumbai Business Talks to Jamnagar Energy Hub

Marco Rubio India visit linked to Mumbai business meetings and the Reliance Jamnagar refinery

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran in Mumbai on Wednesday before travelling to Jamnagar to visit Reliance Industries’ oil-refining complex, according to a report cited by Aaj Tak Business. The schedule brings together India’s major infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and technology interests during Rubio’s India visit.

Rubio arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, according to sources cited in the report. He first met Adani on Wednesday morning and later held discussions with Chandrasekaran. Neither side provided details of the issues discussed in the meetings.

The meetings involved business groups with significant interests in sectors that are central to India’s infrastructure and industrial expansion. The Adani Group’s operations span ports, airports, energy, logistics and infrastructure. The group is also expanding its renewable energy and manufacturing businesses, areas linked to domestic supply chains and efforts to attract global investment.

Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, has interests across automobiles, steel, information technology, aviation, electronics and advanced manufacturing. The group is also investing in semiconductors and battery technology as India seeks a larger role in global technology and manufacturing supply chains.

After the Mumbai meetings, Rubio travelled to Jamnagar in Gujarat, where he was scheduled to visit Reliance Industries’ oil-refining complex. The facility has a reported processing capacity of about 1.4 million barrels per day and is described in the report as the world’s largest single-site oil refinery.

The Jamnagar complex also includes Vantara, a wildlife rescue, treatment and rehabilitation initiative established by Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation under the leadership of Anant Ambani. The initiative is spread across more than 3,500 acres, according to the report.

Another major component of the site is Reliance’s proposed new-energy manufacturing hub, known as the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex. Spread across more than 5,000 acres, the proposed project is intended to include factories for solar photovoltaic modules, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen electrolysers, fuel cells and power electronics.

The report said Rubio was expected to visit the refinery, Vantara and the proposed new-energy manufacturing hub before returning to the United States. Details of any agreements, investment announcements or policy outcomes linked to the meetings had not been disclosed at the time of publication.
