Mangaluru police have announced evening traffic restrictions and parking controls around Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple as the city prepares for the Mangaluru Dasara and Navaratri festival, which is expected to attract thousands of devotees every day until October 21.
Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said traffic congestion is likely on Kuloor Ferry Road from 4pm onwards during the festival period. The affected stretch runs from Car Street to Mannagudda Junction through Balaji Junction, New Chitra Junction, Alake Bridge, Kudroli Temple Gateway and Durgamahal Junction.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes during the evening hours. Vehicles travelling from Kottara Chowki towards Car Street may use the Lalbagh–PVS–Navabharath route. Those travelling from Car Street towards Kuloor Ferry Road may take the Navabharath–PVS route instead.
The police have also prohibited parking on either side of Kuloor Ferry Road between New Chitra Junction and Brahmasri Narayana Guru Circle. Parking is also not permitted on roads connecting to this stretch. Visitors have been asked to use only designated parking spaces near the festival area.
The restrictions are intended to manage the additional traffic generated by daily visits from devotees and dignitaries. The police said the traffic measures would apply from 4pm onwards, when the festival-related movement is expected to intensify.
Commissioner Reddy asked motorists and visitors to follow directions issued by police personnel deployed in the area. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the police to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain law and order during the festival. The advisory will remain in effect through October 21.
