Mangaluru Special Trains Add Relief for Rameswaram Travellers

Mangaluru special trains at a railway station platform with passengers and long-distance coaches

Mangaluru special trains will operate on October 18 and 19 to ease additional passenger congestion between Chennai, Mangaluru and Rameswaram, according to an announcement from Southern Railway. The services will include a one-way express special from Chennai Egmore to Mangaluru Central and another from Mangaluru Central to Rameswaram.

Train number 06036, the Chennai Egmore–Mangaluru Central one-way express special, is scheduled to reach Mangaluru Central at 7.45 pm on October 18. The service has been arranged to bring passengers from Chennai towards the coastal Karnataka city during a period of increased demand.

The second service, train number 06142, will leave Mangaluru Central at 4.15 am on October 19 and reach Rameswaram at 7.30 pm the same day. The one-way express special will connect Mangaluru with key stations across Kerala and Tamil Nadu before terminating at Rameswaram.

The train will stop at Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Payyanur, Kannur, Thalassery, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Junction, Palakkad Junction, Palakkad Town, Kollengode, Pollachi Junction, Udumalpet, Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul Junction, Madurai Junction, Manamadurai Junction, Paramakudi and Ramanathapuram.

Both special trains will have 21 coaches. The composition will include first-class air-conditioned coaches, AC two-tier and AC three-tier coaches, sleeper-class coaches, general-class coaches and luggage-cum-brake-van coaches. The coach mix provides multiple travel classes for passengers using the temporary services, although the announcement does not specify fares, reservation arrangements or the number of seats available in each category.

The services highlight the role of temporary railway capacity in responding to passenger surges on long-distance routes linking coastal Karnataka with destinations in Tamil Nadu. Mangaluru Central is a key rail connection for passengers travelling between the west coast and the southern railway network, while Rameswaram is an important destination in Tamil Nadu. The two services, however, are one-way specials and do not represent a regular timetable change.

Southern Railway has not provided additional details in the announcement about the reason for the specific travel surge, the booking window or whether similar services will be scheduled later. Passengers will need to check the latest railway timetable and reservation information before travelling. Train 06036 is scheduled to arrive at Mangaluru Central on October 18, followed by train 06142’s departure for Rameswaram at 4.15 am on October 19.
