Maharashtra Voter Registration Camps Open Access Before Roll Deadline

Maharashtra voter registration camps at a polling station with citizens meeting booth-level officers

Maharashtra will hold special voter registration camps at every polling station on October 17, 18, 24 and 25, giving citizens an opportunity to check their names in the draft electoral rolls, register as voters, correct personal details and submit claims or objections before the October 26 deadline.

The camps are part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive being conducted by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Maharashtra, in coordination with the Election Commission of India. Booth-level officers (BLOs) will be present at polling stations on all four days to assist citizens with enrolment-related procedures.

The exercise covers the state’s 36 district election offices and is being supported by 288 electoral registration officers, 7,100 assistant electoral registration officers and 1,00,253 BLOs, according to the CEO’s office. Citizens who find that their names are missing from the draft rolls, or who identify errors in their details, can submit applications in the prescribed formats.

Form 6 is used for fresh voter registration. Form 7 allows citizens to object to an entry or seek deletion of a name in accordance with electoral rules. Form 8 can be used to update an address, correct electoral roll details, obtain a replacement Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or register as a person with a disability.

The CEO’s office said fresh voter registration remains open throughout the year, meaning eligible citizens who have not yet enrolled can apply through Form 6 even outside the special camps. The four-day exercise, however, provides a designated opportunity for residents to access assistance at their polling stations while the current draft-roll revision is under way.

Citizens who face difficulty checking their names, completing applications or understanding the registration process can call the voter helpline at 1950. They can also approach help desks at district election officers’ offices or contact the electoral registration officer’s office for their assembly constituency during working hours.

District-wise helpline numbers and help-desk details have been published on the CEO Maharashtra website. Claims and objections under the current revision exercise must be submitted by October 26.
