Maharashtra’s online government services will be unavailable from 4 pm on Friday as the Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation Limited (MahaIT) carries out a data centre migration and system upgrades, according to an advisory reported by Mid-Day. Citizens have been asked to complete urgent applications, document submissions and pending online transactions before the shutdown begins.
The temporary outage is expected to affect several government websites, portals, applications and citizen services developed or maintained by MahaIT. Services accessed through Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) will also be unavailable during the maintenance period.
MahaIT said the scheduled work involves relocating its data centre and upgrading existing systems. The exercise is intended to improve the performance of government digital services, strengthen technical infrastructure and make online platforms more stable, reliable and secure.
During the shutdown, users will not be able to access the affected websites, portals, applications and related services. The disruption could affect citizens who need to submit time-sensitive applications, upload documents, complete online payments or access government services through the state’s digital platforms.
The corporation has urged citizens, government departments and other users to plan their online work in advance and complete urgent transactions before 4 pm on Friday. The advisory is particularly relevant for people with pending applications or documentation requirements that depend on the affected platforms.
MahaIT is aiming to complete the technical work by October 19. Services are expected to resume on Tuesday, October 20, after the completion of technical procedures and system checks. The restoration timeline is therefore dependent on the successful completion of the migration, upgrades and post-maintenance checks.
The corporation has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the scheduled shutdown and appealed to citizens to cooperate during the maintenance period. It has said the upgrade is intended to support more secure and efficient digital services for users across Maharashtra.
The shutdown comes as the state government works on a broader digital governance platform. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed government departments and MahaIT to complete pending work related to the platform by December 31, ahead of its planned launch on January 26, 2027.
The proposed platform is expected to integrate services available through MahaDBT 2.0, MAITRI 2.0 and Aaple Sarkar 2.0. The stated objective is to enable citizens to access government services more seamlessly through digital channels. The immediate maintenance exercise and the planned platform integration will require coordination between MahaIT and multiple state government departments.
For users, the key operational deadline is 4 pm on Friday. Services are expected to remain unavailable until October 20, subject to the completion of the technical work and system checks.
