Maharashtra Hydropower Expansion Targets Energy Stability

Maharashtra has moved to significantly enhance its renewable energy storage capacity by revising plans for two major pumped storage hydropower projects in Raigad district. The updated agreement between the state’s water resources authorities and a central power utility increases the combined capacity of the projects, reflecting a strategic push to stabilise electricity supply amid growing demand and renewable energy integration. The revised framework raises the total output of the Amba and Kumbhe facilities to 2,600 megawatts, up from the earlier planned capacity.
