The Madras High Court has recorded the Tamil Nadu Police clarification that no lookout notice was issued against former minister E.V. Velu in a case concerning alleged earth removal from Malapambadi lake for a political conference in Tiruvannamalai. The court disposed of Velu’s petition, while deferring the hearing of a related petition filed by his son Kumanan.
The case relates to the DMK North Zone Youth Wing conference held in Tiruvannamalai on December 14, 2025. A complaint by Arappor Iyakkam alleged that earth was taken from the nearby Malapambadi lake to level the conference site. The complaint claimed that the action caused an estimated loss of Rs 8 crore to the government.
Based on the complaint, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption registered a case against Velu and his son. The proceedings brought the use of public waterbody resources, the handling of land for a large political gathering and the alleged financial loss to the government before the court.
Velu and Kumanan subsequently approached the Madras High Court, seeking cancellation of what they described as lookout notices issued against them. Their petitions were heard by Justice V. Lakshminarayanan. The petitions placed before the court concerned the alleged restriction and the actions taken by the authorities during the investigation.
During the hearing, the police told the court that no lookout notice had been issued against Velu. The police also sought time to file a response to Kumanan’s petition. The clarification addressed the central claim in Velu’s petition and was recorded by the judge.
Following the police submission, the court closed Velu’s petition. The hearing of Kumanan’s petition was postponed to allow the police to respond. The order therefore settles the question raised in Velu’s petition about whether such a notice had been issued against him, while the related proceedings involving Kumanan remain pending.
The case began with a complaint alleging that material was removed from Malapambadi lake for site preparation connected to the conference. The supplied court report does not establish the final findings on the alleged removal, the precise quantity of earth involved or the conclusion of the vigilance investigation. The next procedural step in the matter is the police response to Kumanan’s petition before the High Court.
