Kutch Accident Kills Seven Workers Inside Gujarat Renewable Park

Emergency response at the Khavda renewable energy park after the Kutch accident

A Kutch accident inside a renewable energy park near Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch district killed seven workers and injured more than 20 others after a truck collided head-on with a pickup vehicle in the early hours of Friday, police said.

The crash occurred between 3am and 4am inside the sprawling clean energy installation, according to Khavda police. The vehicles involved were a truck and a Bolero Camper pickup travelling in opposite directions.

Sub-inspector MB Chavda of Khavda police station said the impact left the pickup truck mangled. All the victims were travelling in the pickup vehicle, the police official said.

Seven workers were trapped inside the wrecked Bolero Camper after the collision. They were extracted with the help of a crane, but all seven died, Chavda said. More than 20 injured workers were transported to hospital by ambulance.

The incident has brought the safety conditions of worker movement inside large infrastructure and energy sites into focus. The accident took place within a renewable energy park, where workers and heavy vehicles operate across a large installation. Police said they were examining the circumstances of the collision and investigating whether negligence played a role.

The crash involved two vehicles travelling in opposite directions, but the police statement supplied in the report did not specify the cause of the collision, the speed of either vehicle, road conditions, or whether any safety protocols had been breached. Those details are expected to form part of the investigation.

Khavda, in Kutch, is the location of a large clean energy installation, and the crash occurred within its operational area rather than on a public road identified in the police account. The immediate response involved rescue equipment, including a crane, to remove the trapped workers from the damaged pickup.

Police have launched an investigation into the accident. Further details on the identities of the deceased and injured workers, the nature of their employment, and the findings of the inquiry were not provided in the report. The investigation will determine the circumstances that led to the truck and pickup colliding and whether negligence contributed to the deaths and injuries.
